BU-LU

The movie Blue is a copy of the movie Into The Blue, but with a bollywood twist to the plot. The Akshay Kumar starer was made out to be an amazing movie by the trailers on TV but could not live up to its hype. The plot was messed up and was poorly executed. Here too the underwater sequences were fabulous and the underwater fighting sequence was better than the original movie.

The setting and the picturisation of this movie was good. The bike races, water scooter stunts, the songs gave it an unmistakable flavour. The funniest thing was the name of this movie. It is pronounced as Bu-Lu and not Blue, which also makes it Indian in flavour. The movie is worth a watch if you are looking forward to seeing the bollywood heartthrob Akshay Kumar in his new avatar or want to wistle at the sizzling hot Lara Dutta. Sanjay Dutt is looking old.

Into The Blue

Paul Walker, Jessica Alba, Scott Caan and Ashley Scott starer Into The Blue is a movie that not everyone will like. It is a movie set in the Bahamas. A group of friends stumble upon a sunken plane which is loaded with Heroine. Their attempt at salvaging it and selling it for money draw the attention of the local drug lord. They get enmeshed into a pretty common intrigue plot with death threats and extortion demands.

The movie as such is nothing great apart from the fact that there are quite a few amazing underwater shots of the Bahamas and Alba is looking very pretty. The underwater fight sequence is not that great. This movie is a good time pass if you have nothing better to do. I cannot watch this movie a second time but it is worth a watch if you want to compare it with the Hindi movie Blue.

The Under-Rated

Ishqiya as a movie has been quite under-rated I believe. My friends have not been able to find a story line and have not been able to appreciate it. I saw the movie yesterday and I felt that it was a far better movie than My Name is Khan. The acting was brilliant by all the three main characters.

The movie is set in Gorukhpur near our border with Nepal. Two thugs reach here to seek the help of a rebel leader to escape into Nepal as they were fleeing from the clutches of a don, whose money they had borrowed. Here they meet the widow of the leader who in her turn makes them eat from her hands. The plot thickens here with the three getting involved with the don. They hatch a plan to kidnap a local rich man for ransom. All this while the widow had something up her sleeves and takes the operation under her wings. It turns out at the end that the rebel leader was alive and the widow all along knew it and the kidnapping was a ploy to get him and take her vengeance. The ending is awesome.

Naseruddin Shah and Arsad Warsi as the two thugs and Vidya Balan as the widow do a brilliant job with the portrayal of the characters. I really loved the way the story unfolded. I would recommend this movie for anyone who likes good movies.

Loveable monsters for all

I watched Monsters vs Aliens last night. It was too good a movie. I may be a bit prejudiced as I love animation movies. Like all animation movies, this too has several layers of meaning and not just a cartoon for the entertainment of kids.

The movie is hillarious, especially its take on the American president (not Obama). It also pokes at the general notion that these politicians are good for nothing. Reese Witherspoon gave her voice to the lead character Susan and does a brilliant job at that.

Susan was to get married to Derek, a weatherman in a local channel who could dream about nothing but his career. On the day of her marriage Susan is hit by a falling meteor and soon increases in size. She is seized by the army and taken to a top secret prison for monsters. Here she meets the other monsters - a scientist who had the head of a cockroach, a gelly, a huge insect and an ancient water monster.

The meteor had special power that the alien Galactrix was looking for and he sends a robot probe to Earth to get it and Susan. When the army finds it impossible to stop the robot, it calls for the monsters and led by Susan the monsters destroys the robot. But Galactrix follows and captures Susan, in the process killing the monster insect. He successfully extracts the special power from Susan and starts creating an army of aliens to rule over Earth.

The other three monsters, in the meantime, infiltrates the alien ship and rescues Susan, who has lost all her power. They are also successful in aborting Galactrix's plans. When he tries to escape Susan stops him and gets back her power. Together the monsters save Earth and Susan realises how big a jerk Derek is.

Even if you now know the story, the movie is still worth a watch. It is brilliantly made and will leave you in splits of laughter. Go watch it or else I can lend it to you.

The Khan Dilemma

Hello all. It is nice to be in your midst and do something I like - talk about movies.

The new craze in town is the Shahrukh Khan movie "My Name is Khan". Many of my friends have watched it and have given various opinions. Some have liked it and filled buckets with their tears, while others were very happy when it got over.

Kajol did not have any worthwhile role to play other than weeping. It is better not to talk about her. SRK was up to his usual overacting, overdoing his role. You cannot actually blame him, he is a director's actor and when the director is as sad as Karan Johar I really do not expect anything even ordinary from him. The movie is a one time watch only if you are not spending any money on it or if you are a SRK fan. Anyway, have a good cry or laugh, as the situation may be. As for myself, I am better off not watching it. Love you all.
